Two Things I Like In Which Palettes Are Implicated

1. Breath Palette is a Japanese company that makes toothpaste in 31 flavors that range from quite improbable to very. They are:

Sweet Salt
Tropical Pineapple
Peppermint
Fresh Yogurt
First Crop Green Tea
Rose
Monkey Banana
Honey
Kiwifruit
Café au Lait
Plum
Tsugaru Apple
Vanilla
Indian Curry
Strawberry
California Orange
Kyoto Green Tea
White Peach
Kisshu Ume
Lavender
Darjeeling Tea
Cinnamon
Budou (grape)
Lemon Tea
Bitter Chocolate
Blueberry
Caramel
Espresso
Grapefruit
Pumpkin Pudding
Cola

They sell them at C. O. Bigelow’s in the West Village, a wonderful and dangerous place that specializes in arcane toiletries and bleeding me dry. But since I never can decide between numbers 4, 5, 8, 24, 29, and 30, and buying them all would mean dropping thirty bucks on toothpaste, I have yet to actually try one.

2. Flavor Palette is a whimsical little catering company based in New York that I discovered by chance while googling Breath Palette. Reiko Reid and Isabel Kurth make the most charming themed hors d’oeuvres: for a party in a laboratory, jello shots in petri dishes; for a musical reception, violin-shaped chicken pies and a cake keyboard assembled from chocolate and lemon-almond “keys.” Go see!
